Design and Technology
In Fryent Primary School, we want our children to explore a range of topics in Design & Technology such as Textiles, Structures and Mechanisms and Food and Nutrition. We want to encourage children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and collaboratively. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. We therefore encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, as well as draw inspiration from their own cultures to design and make purposeful products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, PSHE, History, computing and art. Children are given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and effectiveness. The knowledge and skills based DT curriculum offered in Fryent not only encourages children to become innovators and risk-takers but also inspires them to think about future careers. Our curriculum also gives opportunities for all children to have a sense of achievement when they design and make products.
