French
French has been chosen as a foreign language that children will be able to use as they get older and travel. The country is our neighbour and connections can be made with other European languages that our cohort of children speak. Children will have the necessary skills when they go to high school to continue learning French or access other languages. Children also learn through French stories and songs thus allowing them to cement their knowledge of key vocabulary.
Our French curriculum aims to ensure all pupils develop key language learning skills by the time they move on to high school and provides a firm foundation on which to build further expertise. They are given opportunities to increase communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing by steadily building up vocabulary and looking at how the language is constructed. Learning French and appreciating the culture it has grown from will enable children to broaden their perspective on the world.
